In the November 2008 jumbo issue of FineScale Modeler, Karl Logan reveals an unbelievable weathering technique - with hairspray!

Karl showed you how he modified and beat up Revell's 1/25 scale Chevrolet Nomad. Now, here is a gallery of his finished creation.

Hunting on private land in Pennsylvania as a kid, Karl saw long-derelict cars sitting in fields becoming home to rabbits and other wildlife. That was the inspiration behind his diorama "Lair of the Rust Bunnies," featuring Revell's 1/25 scale Chevrolet Nomad.
While the car serves as the centerpiece, the scene features a wall Karl built with pebbles collected in his driveway, model railroad grass, armor modeling leaves, and, of course, rabbits. The bunnies - Preiser figures Karl repainted - pop up all over the scene.
Karl used Bare-Metal Foil for the Nomad's trim, weathering and rusting it with pastels and washes.
Rust, worn paint, missing trim, torn upholstery, and a drooping headliner add to the atmosphere of dilapidation.

After cutting open the doors, Karl filled the gaps and fashioned a latch.
Apparently the bed of a Nomad is a good place to stand watch if you're a rabbit.
Cinder blocks, cans, and a white lightning jug indicate more than just rabbits spend time in the old car.
The headlights may be home to only dangling wires, but the remnants of the chrome grille point to the Nomad's past glory.
Karl wired and plumbed the engine, but left out commonly salvaged parts such as the battery, air cleaner, and carburetor. The engine was painted and weathered with a combination of hobby and craft acrylics.

That Nomad is a FUNTASTIC a work of of art to make it into reality
as the kind we see in some fields and backyards...Just sitting there
and maybe some one some day will give it a COMPLETE MAKEOVER....
