Here is the perfect scribing tool — a paint-can opener.
My photo shows (left) how the opener appears when new from the store, while on the right you see the opener’s tip filed to a point. The point can be as fine or as wide as you need. The opener’s handle fits in your palm, with the thumb and index finger along the shaft to guide the tip.
Better yet, it costs about $1 in most hardware or discount stores.
