A flexible brace for sandpaper

How to sand tight spaces

While browsing through my local auto-parts store, I came across a useful tool for wet-sanding my models: a semihard rubber rectangle that is used for spreading auto body putty and resin.

In the photo, I have placed two pieces of this rubber on their sides to show that one edge of the rectangle is already beveled.

First, I cut the rubber piece into different widths. Next, I cut my sandpaper to match the rubber’s width and long enough to wrap around the piece 1.5 times — the extra bit of length helps me hold the sandpaper in place.

The rubber is just flexible enough to allow the sandpaper to do its job without harming the plastic.

Now I am able to get into tight spaces that were impossible to reach before and sand to my heart’s content.
