Don Poling Jr. added seat belts, speakers, grilles, and a Best Model Car Parts gauge to his RMR 1/25 scale 1939 Chevy coupe. He covered the model in Toyota Orange and two-part clear, added a Model Master distributor, and frenched the head and taillights with parts from an AMT ’39 Wagon Rod kit.
This 1/25 scale ’64 Fairlane came from junior modeler Nathan Keske, who added fat drag slicks in back and airbrushed the finish. Nathan said his dream car is a Fairlane, and that inspired him to build this model.
Paul Payne scratchbuilt some details, like the front bumper and winch, for his Revell 1/25 scale 1937 Ford tow truck. He also scratchbuilt the bed, sides and rear fenders, boom, gears, air drive, and air compressor. Paul completed the finish by brush-painting and using pastels to weather. He also added plug wires, carb linkage, air hoses, and custom door logos from Blue Ox Salvage.
This candy red 1/25 scale 1970 El Camino has both AMT and Jimmy Flintstone parts and rode to the show with Ken Collins. He plumbed the motor and added aftermarket engine parts to make a scale model replica of an El Camino he once owned.
Gavin Foster built his Tamiya 1/24 scale Nissan Z out of the box. He painted with Gaia Color paints and Tamiya Clear. Gavin was inspired to make the model because he liked the style and look of the car.
Sam Smith built the AMT 1/25 scale ’65 Surf Wagon out of the box and painted it Testors Lime Ice one-coat lacquer simply because he likes the ‘60s!
For something different, Dave Huddle gave a JoHan 1/25 scale ’64 Dodge a Pro Mod makeover with a Revell ’58 Christine Plymouth chassis, hemi with fuel lines and spark-plug wires from his parts box, and a rear wing from a Revell ’55 Jukebox Ford. He finished it with Tamiya paint and automotive clear.
Jason Foster wanted a simple build to help him out of a building slump, so he chose a Fujimi 1/24 scale Porsche RS 3.8. He added side skirts, 3D-printed wheels, and front seats. The finish is custom green mica powder mixed with clear.
Keith Price built an out-of-the-box Revell 1/25 scale 1969 Chevy Nova and painted it Pactra Daytona Yellow and Testors Wet-Look Clear. He was inspired by the paint scheme on the box top.
An Iceman Collections 5.2 Voodoo engine powers Gene King’s Tamiya 1/24 scale Mustang GT4—what would otherwise be a curbside model! Dressing it in Kadima livery, Gene also improved the interior switches, wires, and engine compartment with a Hobby Design detail kit. The paint is Tamiya under Model Master Clear.
Tan Guilfoyle kitbashed an MPC body and grille and AMT chassis and engine bay to create his 1/25 scale 1971 Motown Missile Challenger. To give the car some detail, he added a 3D-printed 426 Hemi, Slixx decals, and chrome details for the love of vintage Mopar Pro Stock.
Sam Husk adores Shelby Mustangs. For this AMT 1/25 scale 1967 Shelby, Sam swapped out the wheels, wired the distributor, added a photo-etched metal breather, and sprayed a Dupli-Color base before topping it with clear.
It doesn’t come with an engine that rumbles “potato-potato,” but Scott Burggraf nails the Harley orange and black on his Revell 1/25 scale ’37 Ford panel delivery. Build box stock, this “hog hauler” wears Chevy Engine Orange and the Harley-Davidson logo prominently on its sides.
This Best Model Car Parts 1/25 scale 1961 Chevy Corvair Rampside came from Pat Sluzas. He painted the resin kit Tahiti coral automotive paint.
Chris Meacham wanted a clean, box-stock build and turned to a Fujimi 1/25 scale Ferrari 250 GTO. Beautifully finished, he airbrushed the body Mr. Color Super Italian Red and brought up the shine with 2K clear.
Heading to the races, Glenn Fahrni’s MPC 1/25 scale 1972 Chevy ramp truck carries an AMT 1962 Chevy Nova II he built nearly 60 years ago! He added several extra details, like the tools and cart, painted Tamiya Italian Red, and marked the hauler for Half-Fast Racing. This build won Glenn 3rd place at the Stark Scale Modelers show.
