To model a current Ukrainian main battle tank, Scott improved a Trumpeter 1/35 scale T-64BM “Bulat” with tow cables from Eureka and a dowel in place of the kit unditching log. He started the camouflage with Tamiya RAF Dark Green followed by post-shading layers of Dark Green lightened with Yellow Green and very thin straight chromate green.

To show German soldiers surrendering to Soviet troops on the Eastern Front, Michael detailed a Dragon 1/35 scale Sherman with photo-etched metal from On the Mark and placed it on groundwork made with Celluclay and Durham’s Rock-hard Putty. The soldiers are a variety of MiniArt and Masterbox figures with Hornet resin heads and hands and scribed details. He painted the skin with artist oils and the uniforms with Vallejo acrylics.

Using an FC Model Trends flamethrower turret, Robert converted an Academy 1/35 scale Stuart into a Marine Corps M3A1 Satan. His other additions included clear lenses and wiring for the headlamps, a brass antenna base, and an Aber machine gun barrel. He painted it with AK Interactive acrylics for a 4th Marine Tank Battalion flamethrower tank on Saipan in 1944.

She wired the ’dozer’s engine and painted it with AK Interactive Real Color Faded Olive Drab with a lightened shade on the upper surfaces.

Tony detailed a Ryefield 1/35 scale M551A1/A1(TTS) Sheridan with Eduard photo-etched metal and scratchbuilt parts and replaced the tracks with Friulmodel individual-link metal tracks. After painting it with Testors Model Master U.S. Gulf Sand acrylic and weathering with oil washes and dry-brushing, he placed the light tank on a foam and Celluclay base with a plaster roadway for a 1991 Gulf War scene.

To model a U.S. Army K9 unit in Afghanistan circa 2010, Tom combined a 1/35 scale Legends figure with an Academy M1151 Humvee. He replaced the kit wheels with resin parts and loaded the vehicle with stowage from his parts box. It is painted with Testors enamels and Tamiya acrylics over black primer and weathered with Ammo washes and pigments.

Inspired by a photo, Clay converted an Asuka 1/35 scale M4 Sherman to launch a Gecko Landing Craft Assault. The modified tank is driving into poured resin water.

The crew, sharing a drink from Meng bottles, are Dragon figures with replacement heads from Hornet. He painted with AK Interactive and Ammo acrylics and made the base with hot-wire cut insulation foam covered with DAS clay, sifted soil, and static grass.

Modeling a Libyan crew discussing repairs to their vehicle, John attached a Trumpeter 1/35 scale Type 63 107mm rocket launcher to an AK Interactive Toyota FJ43 using a scratchbuilt frame-mounted hitch. He also added a front bumper and winch, before painting with Vallejo acrylics and using post-shading, washes, and pigments for weathering.

Kenneth painted and post-shaded it with numerous shades of Tamiya Olive Drab, weathered with artist oil washes and filters, and applied acrylic mud and pigments to tie it to the base, which features plaster bricks and rubble.

He smoothed the Bandai walker’s head with putty to make it look as if it had been cast, added the Sherman hatches, replaced the laser cannons with the M4 76mm main gun, and added extra armor to the legs.

He hand-painted the camouflage with acrylics and drew the demarcations with a black Sharpie.

Both the truck and the munitions trailer it is hauling are 1/35 scale Bronco kits and Ihor wired the radio, replaced the tie-downs with copper wire, and added tarps made from coffee filters soaked in thin white glue. The vehicles were painted with Tamiya acrylics and he finished the Dragon figures with Vallejo colors.

Ian, 16, went all-out to build a diorama featuring a scratchbuilt RMR-1 Russian assault gun overlooking a knocked-out BRDM on a riverbank. He cut the chassis from a Trumpeter 1/35 scale 2S7 Pion self-propelled gun in half and used styrene sheet and 3D-printed parts for the rest of the RMR, which features a detailed interior. Ian painted the model with AK Interactive Real Color lacquers and placed it on the large base built from insulation foam and shattered resin water for the ice.

When a sidetracked project left Mark with a Tamiya Mobelwagen with a big hole in the floor, he reimagined it as Panzer IV Schlepper and the project quickly expanded to mounting a 2cm gun from a Dragon SdKfz 251/17 and pulling a scratchbuilt trailer and a Dragon 7.5cm PaK 40. In between, there were many modifications and scratchbuilding, and the long combination was painted with Tamiya acrylics and weathered with Vallejo and Ammo products as well as pastels.

Wade added the markings with stencils and pencils.

The commander of Soviet KV-1 looks at a knocked-out German Tiger I and realizes his turret was hit in almost the same place, but the round didn’t penetrate the armor like it did the Tiger in Dan’s diorama, “There but for the grace of God go I.” Both vehicles are Tamiya kits and the grateful commander is an Alpine figure. He replaced the Tiger’s fenders with Eduard photo-etched metal and painted with Tamiya acrylics.

John’s not sure who made this 1/35 scale resin kit of a Garford-Putilov armored car, but he finished it as a combat vehicle from the 1919 Ukrainian Civil War using AK Interactive acrylics. Mac cut a Thunder Models 1/35 scale Case VAI in half at the bellhousing for a military tractor having its clutch replaced after being overpowered by the dual rear wheels and overloaded weight box. The exposed clutch and flywheel are scratchbuilt, the engine is wired, and he added fuel lines, the throttle assembly, and many small parts.

Known for his terrific modern tanks and armored fighting vehicles on unique bases, Stan turned his talent loose when he reimagined a Games Workshop Goliath, from the tabletop game Warhammer 40,000, as a vehicle used by the Long Range Desert Group in North Africa in World War II. He scratchbuilt a new front bumper with a spare tire and other details and painted the vehicle with Vallejo acrylics.

After seeing a photo of a German truck with a goulash kanone, Matt added parts of Tamiya’s horse-drawn kitchen to the bed of a Tamiya 1/35 scale Krupp Protze and painted it with Testors Model Masters enamels.

Enlisting a Chinese YW531 armored personnel carrier for Iraqi service, Mike wired all lights with fine electrical wire and added a few items of Value Gear stowage and a tarp made from tissue soaked in thin white glue. Using Tamiya acrylics mixed with Mr. Color Mr. Leveling Thinner, he airbrushed the three-color camouflage for a vehicle from the Iran-Iraq War.

Working with a Vargas Models 1/35 scale kit, Mike built the prewar M2A1 medium tank that never saw combat but was used for stateside training throughout World War II. He added tripods for the .30-caliber machine guns and straps for the pioneer tools and painted with Mission Models Olive Drab.
