6. Mephiston red was applied to the bottom corner.

5. The blood gems were too small to photograph well so I made an enlarged version to show off the process. The base is Khorne red.

7. More highlights were done in flash glitz yellow.

Mephiston is now ready to slay his enemies on the battlefield.

8. For the finishing touch, I painted on a pinpoint of white as a highlight.

1. The figure was primed with black, followed by a dusting of white to lay out shadows. Khorne red was airbrushed over the body, allowing black to show through in crevices.

In the 41st millennium, the future’s bleak and unforgiving. Ravaged by war with forces of chaos and fierce aliens, humanity relies on genetic super human warriors for their very survival. These imposing Space Marines are bred for only one purpose: war.
Mephiston, Lord of Death, is a plastic 16-piece Blood Angel hero character used in Games Workshop’s Warhammer 40K tabletop game. In the October 2020 issue of FSM, I painted his robes, face, and luminous weapons. Here, I finish off the armor and eye-catching gemstones.
I painted the warrior with Citadel paints unless otherwise noted. A good sable brush is a must for quality results. Let’s dip into some colors!

2. I’ll demonstrate my armor painting technique on the backpack. The armor started with a Khorne red base. The top surfaces were given a coat of Mephiston red.

4. I wanted the armor to be brighter than the dark red robes. To achieve this, I reapplied the Mephiston red on the top panels. This was followed with some evil sun scarlet for an extra punch. I detailed the backpack with leadbelcther and Vallejo bronze.

3. I applied a wash of agrax earthshade to darken the panels and recesses.
