There is some confusion on the new wave of kits coming from China. This new 1/32 scale MiG-15 appears under at least two brand names: Trumpeter and FROG (no, not the old British company, but a new one based in Singapore). Our early sample sent by FROG had no box, a limited instruction sheet, and no decals.

The kit features positionable flaps, ailerons, elevators, and rudder. An engine and rear-fuselage dolly make diorama ideas possible. A seated pilot figure helps fill the sparse cockpit. Underwing drop tanks and slipper tanks are included.

Construction wasn’t difficult, and the kit’s resemblance to Tamiya’s 1/48 scale kit made the project a bit easier. The vinyl wheels in my kit were poorly molded, with hollowed-out backsides. Cutting Edge produces resin substitutes, so I used them. I also used Cutting Edge canopy and wheel masks and decals.

I like my BiG MiG. I suspect we’ll see more aftermaket goodies for this kit before too long.
