The IPMS Lakes Region Scale Modelers hosted the NimCon 14 model contest at the VFW Post in McHenry, Illinois, on June 13, 2026. Aircraft, cars, ships, figures, and even a locomotive made their way to the contest tables this year. The theme focused on detail, rewarding builds that included scratchbuilding, lighting, modifications, and more. FineScale Modeler was there to take it all in and picked a selection of excellent scale models to share with you!

A Northern Illinois show boasts figures, autos, aircraft, and more
Jeff’s Takom 1/32 scale Horten Ho 229 flies over the Pacific made from spare pine wood with a brass stand. He added armor plating and a night fighter cockpit to the jet and painted with Real Colors, Tamiya, and Mr. Hobby paints. He added freehand camo, post-shading, and Flory washes.
