Model-finishing terms and definitions

Using six to eight varying shades to paint shadows and light to give a scale appearance of color values. The shades are applied from the bottom up (darkest at the bottom, lightest at the top). In the photo above, the tank on the left, Tamiya’s 1/35 scale BT-7, has been painted with “traditional” techniques of washes and dry-brushing. The tank on the right, Zvezda’s BT-5, was painted using AK Interactive’s 4BO Russian Green Special Modulation Set (No. AK-028).

Many modelers are confused by the numerous model-finishing products and terms thrown around now in modeling magazines and websites. Here are some quick definitions:
