NordicCon 2021 model show and contest was once again a success with plenty of stunning scale models on display. Organized by the Twin City Aero Historians, RPM Model Club, Oddball Modelers Group, Minnesota Military Figure Society, and Minnesota Scale Modelers on Saturday, Sept. 25, this year’s theme was Legends of the 20th Century.

Steve Guthmiller’s unique 1964 Pontiac Grand Prix showcased his many talents and captured gold in the replica stock Automotive category.
This year’s Best Automotive Engine Award was won by Toby Halliday and his replica stock 1969 Dodge Dart.
Todd Kohler picked up the Best Automotive Paint Award for his 1968 Dodge Charger display.
This clean 1929 Ford roadster by Tyler Halliday won Best Street Rod.
Dean Kuitunen’s 1965 Chevy Pickup was weathered to replicate a daily vehicle from the Iron Range. His talents were rewarded by receiving first place in the Best Truck category.
Beautiful paint and decal work on this Jaguar race car by Doug Long earned him a gold in the Racing Closed Wheel Automotive category.
Rob Zielinski’s Eduard 1/48 scale Spitfire Mk.IXc features a detailed resin engine and gun bay. This beautiful model earned Rob a first-place gold award.
This vintage Duesenberg by metal modeler Scott Glatstein featured Splash paint and real leather covered seats. His hard work earned him a first place in the 1/18 scale and larger Automotive category.
This year’s theme award was won by Erik Zabel and his masterful Mickey Thompson Challenger One.
This Type VIIC/41 u-boat by Allen Weaver earned him a gold award.
This Bugatti Chiron by Steve Hansen featured superb two-tone paint.
Patrick Edwards built this Jagdpanther and flatbed rail car and earned an advance gold award for his efforts.
Harold Parsons captured Gold with his Copper State 1/48 scale Caudron G.IV.
This Wingnut Wings Albatros B.II by Richard Schaffer was superdetailed and won gold in the 1/32 scale WW1 Biplanes All Scales class.
Steve Shaffer’s nicely done Tamiya 1/48 scale P-38F/G earned him a first-place award.
People’s Choice at this year’s event was won by Jesse Peterson’s “The Tower”, a 1/35 scale shadow box.
Two Copper State Models 1/35 scale Minervas were entered in this year’s show and both won gold! Bob Maderich’s rendition features lots of detail and Bill Read’s pale blue entry is sitting on a cobblestone street.

Richard Schaffer earned another gold for his A-4E Skyhawk.
This MIG-29 "Fulcrum" was built out of the box and earned Dave Perzel first place.
A Fairey Battle Mk.I by Erik Zabel in 1/72 scale earned him a silver. It’s an MPM kit.
Bob Maderich II captured silver with his colorful 1/48 scale Gulfhawk.
This 1/144 scale F6F-3 Hellcat by Curtis Knight received a first-place award and features a scratchbuilt cockpit.
Curtis also won a gold award with his 1/72 scale Macchi C.200. He started with a HobbyBoss kit and scratchbuilt the landing bays and cockpit.
Jeffrey Campbell’s 1/72 scale A-6A Intruder won gold. A Fujimi kit, Jeffrey mounted it on a “ground blur” base.
Kevin Rickbeil did a wonderful job on his Tamiya 1/48 scale Kawasaki Ki-61 Hein.
Kevin also built this PBY-5A Catalina from the 1/48 scale Revell-Monogram kit.
Imagine flying in this 1920s Focke-Wulf A 16 passenger plane! Erik Zabel won a gold award with this Planet Models kit.
Chuck Bauer picked up a gold award with his 1/350 scale Italian heavy cruiser Zara, which features lots of scratchbuilt parts.
This replica of George Bush’s TBF Avenger was built be Patrick Edwards. His model was based on the 1/48 scale Accurate Miniatures kit.
Jim Hencinski’s “Winter Watch” Tamiya M8 Armored Car earned an intermediate silver award.
This GWH 1/48 scale F-15C Eagle by Steve Rewey features dropped ailerons and won a gold award.
