The IPMS Tidewater Chapter hosted the 2025 IPMS/USA National Convention at the Hampton Roads Convention Center in Hampton, Virginia. The Tidewater and national teams worked together to put on an excellent show with more than 2,100 models displayed on the contest tables in 250 categories. This year’s convention boasted 11 sponsors, with Tamiya USA, Grex, and Atlantis Models among them. As you might expect from the location near Chesapeake Bay and the Atlantic Ocean, ship models were out in full force, and aircraft and armor made good showings. The auto category continues to strengthen, and the Gunpla (Gundam) and mech models had their own category for the first time at an IPMS/USA National Convention. FineScale Modeler was on hand to take photos of a selection of the fine models exhibited. Aaron called his Tamiya 1/24 scale Porsche 911 GT3 a “great, fun little kit.” He built it out of the box, airbrushed it with Tamiya lacquers, and even discolored the exhaust with heat stains.
