Tom Dougherty
Ayer, Massachusetts
Tom built the Iron Shipwrights 1/350 scale USS Seawolf (SSN-575), the second U.S. nuclear submarine built, with a resin hull and 3D-printed details. This sub initially went to sea with a liquid sodium-cooled nuclear reactor, which, due to many technical problems, was replaced with a water-cooled reactor after two years. Seawolf was later lengthened and converted to a Special Projects Ocean Engineering submarine. Tom says that drawings of the Seawolf were included to help modify the stern to the correct configuration, a feature absent in earlier kits.
