John Tinay
Grand Rapids, Michigan
John tackled a pair of SMTS 1/43 scale kits to produce these early race cars, a Napier Railton that set the Brooklands course record in 1933 (left) and a 1927 Miller 91 that competed for Boyne Valve at the Indy 500. He upgraded the former with 3D-printed tires and custom photo-etched metal for exhaust flares, hood straps, dashboard, suspension friction dampers, and radiator before airbrushing it with Alclad II Chrome and Aqua Clear. The Indy car was painted with Tamiya spray-can lacquers decanted for airbrushing.
