When assembling cast-metal track links, I use straight pins instead of the wire supplied with the tracks. Straight pins come in various lengths, diameters, and head sizes, so shop around to find exactly what you need. Simply cut the pins to length and insert them between the links. If you like, reduce the size of the head or file it flat for a more-realistic appearance.
