I use self-adhesive mailing labels to model 1/35 scale weapon and equipment slings, and cargo tie-down straps.

The sticky paper labels are easy to cut with a hobby knife or scissors, and can be painted and glued. They are flexible, so you can bend and twist them to shape without breaking or tearing them.
