Try using a sponge to obtain a realistic mottled paint effect. Very small (unused) makeup sponges work perfectly. Tear off a little piece, then, holding it in a pair of tweezers or a hemostat, dip it in paint. Remove excess paint from the sponge by blotting it on paper. Then dab it against the aircraft in the pattern called for in the instructions.
