For mixing small quantities of paint, I find disposable plastic Communion cups ideal. They are available from most large hobby and craft stores and are quite inexpensive. The cups are roughly equivalent to the size of the top- and side-feed color cups on my airbrushes, which helps eliminate waste because I can easily judge how much I need to mix.
To make a stand to hold the cup while mixing paint, I drilled a hole slightly larger than the diameter of the cup in a scrap of lumber so it nests snugly. This prevents spills and allows me to use the cup for brush-painting as well.
