I prefer using straight pins to connect Friulmodel metal track links. I put two links together, then use a mini-drill bit to open the holes between the links. Then I push a pin through the opening until the head is against the track. I find .019″- or .020″-diameter pins produce a snug fit that allows the tracks to move without the pins falling out. Be careful trimming the pins; I hold them inside a trash can so the excess bits don’t fly all over the room.
