Tiny photoetched-metal parts once flew from my workbench like scheduled airliners. To prevent this, I form a loop of masking tape sticky side out and press it to a small, steel block. Then I position the photoetched-metal fret on the block so the part I want to remove is at the center of the tape. Using a sharp hobby knife, I cut through the attachments between part and fret. Then I remove the fret, leaving the part stuck to the masking tape. As I work on the part, I return it to the tape until I attach it permanently to the model.
