If you are concerned with the dangers of using lead powder to weight aircraft noses, consider tungsten powder. It is almost as dense as solid lead, so it takes up less room than shot. It is not very reactive and should remain inert with the glues or paints we use in modeling. And there are no health warnings attached to the material. Tungsten powder is available for weighting Pinewood Derby cars and golf clubs.
