To give my Special Hobby 1/32 scale X-15’s flat black finish that real dusty appearance from landing on a dry salt-lake bed, I swept up a pile of dust from the garage floor and set the model down a distance away from the pile of dust. I turned a leaf blower on low onto the pile of debris. When the dust had settled, the flat black finish looked like it was wearing dust kicked up from the lake bed.
