In the May 2016, Phillip Gore backdated Polar Lights’ 1/350 scale “Star Trek” Enterprise to model the filming miniature built for the first pilot of the science-fiction TV series. The model is so cool, we thought you like to see more photos of the finished model as well as a couple of in-progress images we didn’t have room for in the magazine.

Trim the extension from the intercoooler fronts (left) to model the early version.

The bumps on each nacelle control reactor were sanded away.

Phillip masked the hull connecting pylon, or neck, and painted it light blue. The connector’s color changed between the first and second pilots because a blue screen was used in the latter for special-effects shots. Black was used in the first pilot.

Careful masking and painting colored the intercoolers, and nacelle sides and fronts.

Phillip used strip decals for rectangular windows, and punched the round ones from a spare markings. Dental floss helped align decals on the nacelles and primary hull.
