The lighter side of ship modeling?

Lamp risers are decorative brass hardware used to raise lamp shades and allow more light beneath a lamp. I use them to secure ship models to wooden bases. Risers are threaded ¼" in diameter and 27 threads per inch (¼-27). The bottom is female while the top is male.

During construction, I drill two holes along the centerline of the hull. Then, I secure nuts over the openings. When the model is complete, I screw risers into the nuts. Two holes aligned with the risers are drilled into the base, countersinking room for the bolt heads on the underside, 1. Bolts are threaded through the base into the female side of the riser and the ship is securely attached to its base. I find the scrolled shapes of lamp risers lend a museum quality to any ship model, 2.
