On Aug. 26, 2023, modelers met in Elida, Ohio, for the 20th annual Lima Transmission Model Car Show. With models in plenty of categories, like muscle cars, classic cars, trucks, lowriders, and more, there were plenty of models to see! The following is a selection of what appeared on the tables.
Jason Foster
Findlay, Ohio
Jason modified his Tamiya 1/24 scale Nissan Skyline GT-R R34 with a Micromachine STL 3D-printed wide-body kit and wheels. He finished it with Mr. Hobby Blue Green lacquer to make “a low, mean-looking R34.”
Rob Smorey
Canal Winchester, Ohio
Bill Elliot fan Rob brought this Monogram 1/24 scale No. 9 Coors T-bird with an open trunk and hood. He used Tamiya Mica Red and White lacquer, PowerSlide Decals, and a DuPont clearcoat for the finish. To customize it, he added Dancing Bear brake hubs, Millersport 3D-printed wheels, and Top Studio, Model Car Garage, and Scale Production aftermarket parts.
Todd Wingerter
Canal Fulton, Ohio
Todd modified the chassis and body of his AMT 1/25 scale 1963 Shelby Cobra to make it a pro-street car, installed an SOHC 427 engine, and a covered windshield and glass. The paint job is done in Dupli-Color Barcelona Red Met. He scratchbuilt the car’s wiring, exhaust system, firewall, dash, and suspension. Wow!
Steve Courtney
Canton, Ohio
Steve built his Revell 1/25 scale ’56 Ford pickup box stock, aside from adding 3D-printed Z Force wheels and wiring. He finished the car with Tropical Gritz paint.
Brian Reynolds
Lima, Ohio
This is Brian’s AMT 1/25 scale ’66 Ford Fairlane finished in Rust-Oleum Maroon over a black base coat. He wired the motor and added chrome moldings to finish the model for a nice tribute build of his father’s Fairlane.
Robert Staley
Lima, Ohio
Robert pieced together his 1/24 scale Ford delivery from AMT, MPC, and Revell parts. He chopped the top, scratchbuilt a custom visor, and fitted new rims and tires. He finished the model with Rust-Oleum spray paint and water-based craft paint. Robert wired the motor and added a rusty patina.
Scott Hoover
Mechanicsburg, Ohio
This AMT 1/25 scale ’55 Chevy wagon comes from Scott, who added a ProCharged LS motor, 3D-printed wheels, and a resin hood. He finished the model with candy-green paint topped with transparent metal flake and PPG Clearcoat.
Bud Fowle
Powell, Ohio
Bud’s Revell 1/25 scale 1939 Ford pickup arrived with lots of modifications. He added a scratchbuilt surfboard rack and wheels and tires from a Revell ’29 pickup rat rod. Bud wired the motor, added surfboards from various kits, installed a pre-wired distributor, weathered, and added straps for the board rack. He finished with Tamiya Light Pearl Green.
Eric Butturff
Lima, Ohio
Eric came to the show with his Monogram 1/25 scale 1955 Chevrolet Bel Air convertible painted with Automotive Fast Dry Enamel in Seacrest Green and Summit White. He added a pre-wired distributor from Morgan Automotive Detail, completing the build.
Glenn Fahrni
Dalton, Ohio
Glenn showed up with his Revell-Monogram (Pro-Modeler) 1/25 scale 1958 Corvette roadster, built box stock. He said he tried to match the full-sized ’58 Corvette color Metallic Charcoal using Testors Extreme Lacquer Graphite Dust, painted the coves Testors Extreme Lacquer Diamond Dust, and topped everything with Testors Ultra Gloss Clear Coat.
Vern Heizer
Fairborn, Ohio
Vern’s kitbashed 1/24 scale custom has an AMT 1951 Chevy body fitted with a Revell ’50 Olds top, and a vanished beltline. He finished the model with Majic Blue, Pure White, and two-part clear.
Marcus Humes
Lima, Ohio
In the Juniors category, Marcus brought his Airfix 1/24 scale VW Beetle that he made simply because he loves cars. Awesome job, Marcus!
