The Soviet Union’s T-28 medium tank featured three turrets: one armed with a 76mm main gun and two housing machine guns.
Zvezda’s 1/72 scale T-28 is a pretty quick and easy build consisting of 201 tight-fitting parts and straightforward construction.
I started by adding the running gear to the tub-style lower hull. Although the T-28 has a large number of road wheels and mudguards, all of the parts required no cleanup and fit well.
The link-and-length tracks go together like a dream and look good, too. Only six parts are needed for each run. The parts show nicely molded detail and are flexible enough to allow for some sag.
The upper hull and turrets built quickly, which was not surprising considering the low parts count. Even so, Zvezda manages to capture petite, crisp details. Separate tools cling to the hull, and many of the hatches are posable.
Unfortunately, a solid-molded cover obscures the beautifully detailed fan at the rear. However, enterprising modelers can perform some magic to rectify that shortcoming.
I base-coated the tank with Badger Stynylrez primer before spraying the camouflage with Vallejo Model Air colors; Ammo by Mig Jimenez washable white provided the distressed whitewash.
I spent about 15 hours building and painting my Soviet tank. In the T-28, Zvezda delivers a great kit for modelers of any skill level, and it should easily fit into any 1/72 scale collection.
