Ok, so to what extant can the de-chroming work. I'm intending to de-chromate my tamiya, all chrome covered, 1/48 F4D skyray. Thanks

I use this too. It works quickly and without the noxiousness of oven cleaner etc.

Just stripped some parts from a monogram kit. Bleach worked well but I noticed a yellowish coating under the chrome which did not come off. Seems to be a gloss coat to give the parts a smooth finish. Do you know if this will affect paint adhesion?

In a future NPRD could you explain the difference between injection molding and slide molding? Thanks.

Bleach is OK and I use it but Purple Power not only works on bleach, it's a great paint stripper and a little safer to use than bleach or Liquid Plumr. It's the one chemical I keep on hand,

I use Easy Off oven cleaner and it works well. It too is caustic and has lye in it so be careful. I then rinse with water and clean in Simple Green and it is good to go.  It is getting harder to get as the new stuff does not have lye in it and does not work.  I think I will switch to bleach when my can runs out. Thanks for the great tip and demo.

The couple of times I've needed to de-chrome parts, I just used Windex. Wasn't as fast as these products, but far less noxious. Didn't take all that long, and I wasn't in a hurry, so much preferred.

For stripping chrome, I use LA's Totally Awesome Cleaner from the Dollar Store. It usually works in minutes. Pour some in a glass jar. Put in the part. Wait about 10 minutes. I then swirl the part in the jar and rinse thoroughly in water.

I would like to know more about how the parts are chromed to start with. I have noted through the years that chrome parts seem to always have a black plastic underneath. Maybe I just did not see enough chrome parts since I focused more on military kits. Does the shiny layer on the parts actually contain chrome the metal?

There have been many "changes" in the appearance of these video's, some okay, some definitely not.

Thanks everyone for watching and sharing your thoughts! We're trying new things to see what works with the new format. Obviously, not everything will stick, but we'll try to keep the best of what we do to make the overall experience better. As for the stripping chrome redux, we thought it deserved another go around with all the responses we received the last time around.

Another alternative to the bleach for chrome removal is to use Clorox bleach gel, which is marketed as a toilet bowl cleaner. I have had only one kit's chrome that did not respond very quickly to the gel and that particular kit took using a purple cleaning/degreasing product called Super Clean which I picked up at a local farm supply store.

Very well done with the chrome removal. Looks like i will be using bleach from now on. It is something I always have around the house. I really liked to contest footage, great to see models from other parts of the country.

I also like the close up of the sprues during the unboxing! Thanks for sharing the different stripping products and giving us options. I guess bleach is the cheapest of them all?!?

Best NPRD ever! I love that you are unboxing the kits and explaining features while handing the sprues. It gives a great sense of scale and makes the video far more interesting.

The video of the Roscoe Turner show complimented the gallery nicely.
