NNL West 2021 Model Car Show

Join the West Coast's largest model car show — virtually! This year's theme: Shelter-in-Place builds
Wonderful news! The West Coast's largest model car show is still happening this year — online! 

We may not be able to meet in person, but that shouldn’t stop you car modelers from showing off your amazing work. Join FineScale Modeler and NNL West for the virtual 2021 show and contest, featuring “Shelter-in-Place Builds”.

More information and contest specifics will be coming in the next few weeks. Check back here and follow FSM on Facebook to stay up-to-date. 

Here are the dates to remember:
  • Contest opens for entries — March 1st
  • Contest closes — March 31st, end of day
  • Voting begins — April 1st
  • Voting ends — April 7th, end of day
  • Winners announced — April 9th
A People's Choice Award will be given to the model with the most votes. There will be both an Adult and a Junior category.

In addition, other awards and honors will be handed out by the NNL West administration.

The theme this year is Shelter-in-Place so start thinking about the models you might want to photograph and enter. You'll be able to submit up to three photos of a model and as many models as you wish. Remember that a great photo increases your chances of winning — watch this how-to video for tips and tricks on taking the best picture of your model.

NNL West Online Model Show

The biggest model car show in California has gone virtual!

From the first show in 1985, NNL West has grown into the largest model car show on the west coast with more than 1,000 models on display! To keep the tradition alive and well, NNL West has teamed up with FineScale Modeler to bring you the 34th annual NNL West Virtual Model Show!
Enter photos of your model for a chance to win awards and recognition for your amazing work!
How to enter
NNL West Virtual is open to entries March 1st – March 31st, 2021, and it’s completely free to enter. 
You can submit as many models as you wish! All you have to do is share up to three photos of your model in one of eight categories:  
  • Hot Rods & Customs
  • Street Machines / Tuners
  • Lowriders
  • Showroom Stock (Domestic & Import)
  • Competition (Closed Wheel)
  • Competition (Open Wheel)
  • Motorcycles
  • Junior Modelers (under 12 years old)
When you have the photo or photos you want to submit, go to the model’s category and follow these instructions:
  1. You have to upload photos one-at-a-time.
  2. In the Title box, add the make and model of your vehicle and its photo number (Ex. McLaren Senna, photo 1 of 3)
  3. In the Description box, include your name, your location, and information about the build, such as the manufacture, scale, and how you built and painted it. (Ex. John Smith, Denver, Colorado. I built Tamiya’s 1/24 scale McLaren Senna as a present to my dad. The sideview mirrors were scratchbuilt using … I painted with an airbrush and Tamiya enamels by … )
  4. If you’re submitting more than one photo, you can choose to add all of the information to the first photo’s description, or space out the information across multiple photos.

Vote for your favorite
The voting period runs from April 1st – April 7th, 2021. You can cast one vote per category. 
Anyone and everyone is allowed to vote, regardless of whether you entered a model. 
Be sure to spread the word about the show with your friends and family so they can vote, too! We recommend sharing the URL link to this page via Facebook, Twitter, and email.
Awards and Prizes
As with previous years, the model with the most votes in the Junior Modeler category will receive the People’s Choice Junior award. The model with the most votes from the remaining categories will receive the People’s Choice Adult award. 
There will be two Memorial Awards – the Randy Vandrais Best Custom and the Oakey Al Best Oval Track Racer. Recipients will be chosen from among all participants by the NNL West selection committee.
All award winners will receive a framed photo of their model with the NNL West logo and show information included.
Everyone who enters a model or votes in the contest is automatically entered in our sweepstakes for a chance to win one of *** amazing prizes, to be announced soon.

Award and prize winners will be announced April 9.
