Hawker Hurricane Mk.XII Walkaround
Detailed photos for scale modelers from the EAA AirVenture
The Hawker Hurricane entered service with the Royal Air Force in October 1937. Covered mostly in doped linen, its construction resembled that of older planes and was considered outdated by the beginning of World War II. Regardless, it performed valiantly in the skies over France during the early parts of the war and in the Battle of Britain where it scored more victories for the RAF than its high-performance cousin, the Supermarine Spitfire. The Hurricane Mk.XII, as seen here, is a Canadian-built variant powered by a Packard Merlin 29 and would have been armed with twelve .303-inch machine guns. Slated for 400 units, 250 served with the Royal Canadian Air Force, while 150 were shipped to Britain where they were fitted with a Merlin XX and designated Mk.IIs.
