Luk Vanstappen
Mechelen, Belgium
Luk painted the Tamiya 1/35 ‘Wespe’ self-propelled howitzer with Tamiya acrylics, imagining how it might look camouflaged in part as its namesake wasp. The base is plaster with scrub and tufts from Bear’s Scale Modeling (BSM) and he made the fence from toothpicks and fine twine.
Michael Epstein
Prairie Village, Kansas
Michael says he was inspired to build this Tamiya 1/35th scale Type 82 Kubelwagen from a single photo in a book on wartime VWs that showed a Kubelwagen in winter camo after crossing a bridge in western Russia. He hand-painted the camo to match the photo but had to print the photo in reverse to help him paint the other side. Michael made the diorama base with a DioDump winter scenery mat and trees from JTT. He cut some of the grass from the pad to create a road with lots of AK Interactive acrylic mud. Michael used Woodland Scenics Realistic Water for the puddles and added extra snow in the trees and on the edges of the road.
Mike Walston
Sarasota, Florida
When Atlantis Models reissued the Amoeba kit, Mike decided to recreate the confrontation between a giant single-celled organism and the USS Enterprise from the classic Star Trek episode, “The Immunity Syndrome.” After finishing the back of the amoeba with appropriately psychedelic artwork, he attached it and an out-of-the-box AMT 1/2500 scale Enterprise to a picture frame. "All decks, secure for collision."
