Below are this week's selection of fantastic models:
Antonio Thuemler
Miami, Florida
This sharp looking jet is a Hasegawa 1/48 scale F-104C built out of the box. For the Starfighter’s natural-metal finish, Antonio painted with Vallejo Metal Color acrylics. “This is one of my favorite cold war jets,” says Antonio.
Anthony Morris
Laconia, Indiana
Anthony says he had a great time building Moebius’ 1/25 scale Hudson Hornet Convertible. He painted it with Krylon red and Dupli-Color black. Bare-Metal Foil detailed it inside and outside. He says that this was the first kit from Moebius he’s built and has since bought more.
Chris Turner
Los Angeles, California
Look out! Chris had some fun building this eventful 1/35 scale diorama. It’s made up of a smattering of kits, including a Tamiya M3 Stuart, crew from MiniArt, and a Pegasus T-Rex. You have to wonder how the crew is going to get out of this pickle.
Bob DelGiorno
Jackson, Tennessee
Bob placed this Airfix 1/35 scale M3A1 Stuart in the Philippines by painting it with Ammo by Mig Jimenez olive drab acrylics. He then dirtied up his out of the box build with Vallejo mud.
Bryan Carson
Middlebury, Vermont
Bryan says he ran into some trouble building this 1/72 scale Photo Reconnaissance (PR) Spitfire Mk.X from Special Hobby. He says it felt like a throwback to another era of modeling. “But I wanted to do the PRU pink, so this was the one,” he says. “It required lots of putty and sanding and forget about the landing gear — that's why it's a wheels-up model. I like the color because the pink shows off the wash in the panel lines well.” The pilot is from an Airfix Dakota and the paint is a Vallejo Model Air set specifically for RAF Day Fighters 1941-1945 and PRU set. One high point was that the kit came with good quality decals.
Bill Cook
Janesville, Wisconsin
To gussy up Atlantis’ 1/48 scale White-Fruehauf gas truck, Bill added a fully detailed engine with plug wires and finished it with Tamiya paint. “This kit was originally issued by Revell in 1956 and still has good detail and goes together very well,” he says. “It was a pleasure to build.”
David Lewis
Leawood, Kansas
David purchased this 1/35 scale CMK (Czech Master Kits) Škoda LT vz.35 at the company’s factory. According to him, the kit is great but tricky to build, especially the tracks. For guidance, he followed along with a video from Harry Houdini Models when building it and he’s glad he stuck with it. Tamiya acrylics and Vallejo washes finished the Czechoslovak army tank.
Douglas Corp
Charles Town, West Virginia
Douglas built Bandai’s Perfect Grade 1/60 scale Zaku II out of the box and painted it with AK Interactive and Mig Productions paints. “I heavily chipped the mecha to give it a nice worn-out look,” he says.
Sid Ong
Clackamas, Oregon
Wanting to model a Spanish Civil War aircraft, Sid built ICM’s 1/32 scale Polikarpov I-16with a Yahu Models instrument panel and a set of Eduard seat belts. . The red and colors are Tamiya acrylics; Vallejo colors were used elsewhere. The cockpit was completed with a Yahu Models instrument panel and a set of Eduard seat belts.
