Another track-assembly jig

FSM-RT0512_03

When I built Dragon’s M4A4E8 Sherman, the individual-link tracks proved difficult and I wasn’t happy with them. Recently, I got my hands on the same model and wanted to make the tracks perfect. So, I whipped up a jig that would let me glue the tracks with ease. It’ll work for any kind of track (with modification), but especially well with tracks that have a single row of guide horns in the center of the links. I cut a 1⁄2" sheet of plywood or MDF into two pieces, then attached them to scraps of wood so they are parallel with enough space between them for the guide horns. Then I place masking tape, sticky-side up, along both sides and secure it with tape. Now I can place tracks securely together and glue as I go. The jig helps keep the tracks flat and straight. Once the glue is firm, peel off the tape and attach the tracks to the model.
