Bob Huard’s chopped, fenderless AMT 1/25 scale ’40 Ford Sedan Delivery makes a smooth canvas for the metallic purple finish. It got 3D-printed spoked wheels from American Model Products and real leather trim inside.
This Lindberg 1/25 scale ’64 Dodge 330 was done as a replica of the Dodge Chargers car, a forerunner of the funny car class, reports Jeff Denison. It’s got plenty of mods and a finish from Bob’s Paint.
“These two cars are cousins and should go together,” advised Mike Kollver. The Poppy Red Mercury Cyclone II and the yellow Ford Cobra were factory concept cars. The models use 1/25 scale kit plastic bodies with Jimmy Flintstone resin aero noses.
Rick Papp has built a collection of seven Christmas-themed show rods. The 2024 edition is based on a Monogram 1/24 scale Rommel’s Rod with the doors removed and a Duval windshield fitted. The finish is Tamiya Dull Red with an overcoat of Clear Pearl.
Round Two has reissued AMT’s 1/25 scale Cal Drag Combo, a ’64 Ford Galaxie pulling a ’64 Ford Falcon on a trailer. Cole Wiknich cut the hood open on the curbside style Galaxie and added a 351 Windsor engine. The finish on the sharp combo is from MCW with 2K clear adding the shine.
Joe Morgan built this Lindberg 1/25 scale ’64 Dodge Super Stocker for Rick Radecke, a key organizer of Motor City NNL. Joe consulted with Rick on what technical details the drag car should have and then surprised him with a gift of the finished model. The graphics are by STS Decals. A fun detail is that most of the sponsors are model car companies.
The 2024 Motor City NNL included some interesting, creative builds, including this lead sled from the mind of Vern Heiser. He dropped a motor and suspension from an AMT Corvair under a Lindberg 1/25 scale ’53 Ford Convertible and finished it with Duplicolor Silver and 2K clear.
The big wheels and tires on Ron Harris’ swamp truck look like they came from a motorcycle kit, but they’re actually from his grandson’s Lego collection. Ron extended the bed of a Lindberg 1/25 scale Little Red Wagon with corrugated styrene sheet and installed a twin blower engine from a 1/20 scale Popcorn Wagon.
Pete Wilhoft made his AMT 1/25 scale ’34 Ford 5-Window Coupe more realistic with a folding hood and a rolled back cloth top. The sharp rod is painted with Tamiya Graphite Gray and Italian Red. “My wife is a big part of my model building,” he said. “She tells me what looks good and what doesn’t.” We think you both got it right, Pete.
Michael Hinkle built the retooled and reissued AMT 1/25 scale ’64 Olds F-85 box stock and added decals from STS, Slixx, and the AMT Supernatural 1967 Chevy Impala kit. The wheels on the eerie drag car were airbrushed with clear orange to make the car stand out.
Arthur Radziszewski modified a Tamiya 1/24 scale 1966 Volkswagen Beetle with a Black Box widebody kit from Texas 3D Customs. The slick restomod bug also sports 18-inch Fifteen52 wheels from Scale Productions and a Porsche flat four engine, also from Texas 3D Customs.
Bob Pedersen’s Moebius 1/25 scale 1972 F-250 Ranger with plow truck suffered damage in transit to the show — it can happen to anyone. Still, we could tell it was a sharp model and saw past the bed alignment issues. Love the clean factory two-tone finish and the wired Ford blue engine.
This clean ’70 Buick is Charlie Kroll’s solution for a lowrider that’s not an Impala. The lowered luxury two-door rides on Pegasus wheels and sports a Tropical Glitz Toffee finish.
Kreg Woods applied super-convincing weathering to a Moebius 1/25 scale 1972 F-250 Ranger snowplow. The interior is also worn with a ripped seat, and the bed is filled with real sticks that look like to-scale logs.
Hector Flores Jr. entered this MPC 1/25 scale 1980 Chevy Class Action Monte Carlo at the Motor City NNL. He’s the first to give credit to Juan Sepulveda for the elaborate lowrider paint job. Hector matched the exterior quality with his own Biscuit Tuck interior.
